A Shifting Political Landscape: While the BNP expects a landslide victory in the absence of the banned Awami League, a formidable challenge is emerging from a Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance. Interestingly, Gen-Z activists from the newly formed NCP have teamed up with Jamaat after failing to establish an independent electoral footing. Speaking to Reuters, BNP chief Tarique Rahman expressed absolute confidence in securing enough of the 292 contested seats to form a government.

The Power of the Youth Vote: Analysts emphasize that the "Gen-Z" demographic, comprising nearly a quarter of the electorate, will hold the key to the Prime Minister’s office. Parvez Karim Abbasi of the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) noted that with a significant portion of voters still undecided, the youth’s preference will be the ultimate tie-breaker in an election where traditional symbols like the 'Boat' are no longer dominant.

Geopolitical and Economic Stakes: Beyond internal politics, the election is vital for restoring stability in the world’s second-largest garment exporter. The outcome will also recalibrate the influence of regional powers, India and China, in Bangladesh. Observers suggest that even if they don't win outright, Jamaat is poised for its most significant electoral performance to date, marking a major shift in the country's political trajectory.
