At the time, Bin Sulayem was seeking UK government loan guarantees and investment for his "London Gateway" project. Notably, the current interim government of Bangladesh has recently decided to lease the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chattogram Port to this same DP World, sparking widespread protests among port workers.

According to over 3 million documents recently released by the US Department of Justice, Epstein sent emails to then-UK Business Secretary Lord Mandelson in 2009 seeking investment. In these communications, the project was described as the "UK’s largest infrastructure investment" and a significant opportunity for job creation.

The records reveal that Bin Sulayem requested Epstein to review his messages to Lord Mandelson and provide strategic advice to secure government backing. In January 2010, DP World confirmed it would proceed with the project, which then-PM Gordon Brown called a "huge vote of confidence" in the economy. Following the latest disclosure of these links, Lord Mandelson resigned from the Labour Party last Sunday. Epstein died in a New York prison in 2019 while awaiting sex trafficking charges.
