According to a report by Anandabazar Patrika Online, the West Bengal government has introduced a new initiative called ‘Banglar Yubasathi,’ modeled after the existing ‘Yubashree’ project.

While presenting the budget, Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya stated that unemployed youths aged between 21 and 40 with a secondary education would receive a monthly stipend of ₹1,500 under this scheme. The project is scheduled to launch on August 15, 2026, with an initial allocation of ₹5,000 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

According to the budget documents, an individual can receive this allowance for a maximum of five years. However, if the recipient secures a job within this period, the benefits will cease. Notably, those receiving other scholarships for higher education will still be eligible for the ‘Banglar Yubasathi’ scheme.

Currently, the ‘Yubashree’ project is active in the state, offering ₹1,500 per month to those who have passed at least the 8th grade. With the state assembly elections expected in March or April, this final budget also increased benefits for the ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ scheme. General category women will now receive ₹1,500, while women from SC/ST communities will receive ₹1,700. Additionally, the government has announced a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state employees.
