However, fresh flames erupted in several parts of the building on Monday afternoon, forcing a temporary suspension of rescue efforts. Firefighters reported that the lack of proper ventilation in the mall, which houses over 1,200 shops, caused it to fill with thick smoke, making it nearly impossible for rescuers to reach trapped victims quickly. Authorities have warned that the building's structural pillars have been severely weakened by the intense heat and are at risk of collapsing; a portion of the building's left wing has already crumbled.

The blaze, which started late Saturday night, raged for more than 24 hours before being brought under control, significantly hindering rescue efforts in the densely populated area. Hasanul Hasib Khan, a spokesperson for the rescue team, told Reuters that the fire had already spread from the ground floor to the upper levels by the time they arrived, engulfing the entire complex. Rescuers are currently using hammers and saws to cut through windows and walls to gain entry, though fears of more casualties remain. Meanwhile, large crowds gathered near the site to protest against alleged administrative negligence, prompting the deployment of additional police to maintain order. Many shop owners were seen in despair, watching their life savings and businesses turn to ashes in the ruins.
