Iran’s Message Regarding the Execution of Protesters
In response to a question about whether protesters would be sentenced to death, Abbas Araghchi said, "There is no question of carrying out executions." His comments come at a time when there is significant international concern regarding Iran’s internal situation and the anti-government movement.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that the killing of anti-government protesters in Iran had stopped and that decisions to carry out planned executions had been suspended. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House on Wednesday, Trump mentioned he received this information from a "very important source." However, he did not provide details on who the source was.
Trump said, "I have learned that the killing of protesters in Iran has stopped, and there are currently no plans to execute anyone." At the same time, he did not entirely rule out potential U.S. military action against Iran, stating, "We are monitoring the situation."
Reporting from Washington D.C., Al Jazeera’s Mike Hanna noted that Trump’s recent comments suggest a slight softening of his stance toward Iran. He mentioned that Trump is still considering various options and is receiving regular briefings from the National Security Council. Analysts believe these recent statements indicate a potential cooling of the situation and a reduction in immediate tensions.
