Operation 'Sindoor' Still Ongoing: India Issues Stern Warning to Pakistan
Speaking at the year’s first press conference on Tuesday, General Dwivedi addressed reporters regarding the security landscape on the Western front, as reported by Indian news outlet NDTV.
The Army Chief emphasized that during the height of Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army maintained strategic troop deployments, remaining fully prepared to launch a full-scale ground offensive had Pakistan committed any further tactical errors.
Operation Sindoor was initiated on May 7 last year as a retaliatory strike following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. That attack was claimed by ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
According to Indian military claims, the strikes targeted terrorist infrastructure across Pakistan and PoK, resulting in over 100 casualties. The conflict escalated as Pakistan responded with missile and drone strikes on Indian military and civilian sites, prompting India to conduct retaliatory strikes on several Pakistani airbases. The hostilities concluded with a ceasefire declaration on May 10.
General Dwivedi described Operation Sindoor as a milestone in integrated military response:
Political Mandate: The operation was conducted under clear political directives with full operational freedom for a tri-service response.
Shattering the Nuclear Myth: Over an 88-hour window, Indian forces struck deep into Pakistani territory, destroying terror infrastructure and challenging Islamabad’s long-standing "nuclear rhetoric."
Immediate Deterrence: Counter-shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) resulted in the elimination of approximately 100 terrorists.
While describing the situation along the Western border as "sensitive but under control" since the ceasefire, General Dwivedi provided updated figures on counter-insurgency efforts.
In 2025 so far, 31 terrorists have been neutralized, 65% of whom were identified as Pakistani nationals. Additionally, under ‘Operation Mahadev,’ all three attackers involved in the Pahalgam incident were eliminated. The General further claimed that the number of active local terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir has now been reduced to single digits.
