Kataib Hezbollah Warns of Retaliation if U.S. Attacks Iran
In a statement on 12 January, Monday, the group’s Secretary-General Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi said that Kataib Hezbollah would stand with the Iranian people in the event of a U.S. military strike. He described the situation in the region as a new conflict between “forces of truth and falsehood,” with the United States leading the latter.
Al-Hamidawi asserted that any war against Iran would not be easy for Washington and would come at a high cost. He emphasized that under any circumstances, Kataib Hezbollah remains committed to supporting Iran and its population.
Kataib Hezbollah, designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. in 2009, is one of the most powerful Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq. Previously, the United States has accused Tehran of using Lebanese Hezbollah and armed Iraqi groups to suppress ongoing protests in Iran.
