Since taking office for the second term last January, the Trump administration has taken a strict stance on immigration. Over the past year, widespread enforcement operations have been carried out nationwide, resulting in the revocation of a significant number of visas. In many cases, even holders of valid visas were detained and deported to their home countries.

According to the State Department, the canceled visas include nearly 8,000 student visas. Additionally, around 2,500 special visas were revoked for individuals who came under law enforcement scrutiny for involvement in criminal activities.

The department stated that efforts to remove individuals involved in criminal offenses will continue to ensure national security, and strict policies are being applied to the issuance of new visas.

U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Piggott noted that the primary reasons for visa cancellations include overstaying, driving under the influence, involvement in violent crimes, and theft-related offenses. He further stated that the visa cancellation rate in 2025 increased by nearly 150 percent compared to 2024.
