In an emergency security alert issued by the U.S. Virtual Embassy, authorities said the unrest is expanding nationwide and could lead to mass arrests, injuries, road closures, disruptions to public transportation, and possible internet shutdowns, significantly affecting daily life.

The alert also noted that several international airlines have suspended or canceled flights to Iran until at least January 16. U.S. citizens were advised to consider departing Iran via land routes through Armenia or Turkey.

The United States cautioned that internet access in Iran may be disrupted and urged citizens to prepare alternative means of communication. It also emphasized that individuals should not rely on direct assistance from the U.S. government while in the country.

For those unable to leave immediately, the advisory recommended remaining in secure locations, maintaining adequate supplies of food, water, medicine, and essential items, and avoiding areas where protests or demonstrations are taking place.

The warning reflects the highest level of U.S. security concern regarding the current situation in Iran.
