Trump Signals Tough Action Ahead of Possible Talks with Iran
Speaking on Air Force One Sunday night, Trump said, “We are taking this matter very seriously. The military is evaluating all options, and we are considering very strong measures. A decision will be made soon.” He added, “Iranian leadership has reached out. Following the threat of military action, they have proposed talks, and a meeting is being arranged. Action may be necessary even before the meeting.”
Tehran has yet to respond to these remarks. Earlier, Iranian officials issued stern warnings against any U.S. intervention. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated, “If the United States attacks, military bases and ships in occupied regions will be targeted.”
The protests began on December 28 at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, triggered by a sharp devaluation of the rial and worsening economic conditions. The movement quickly spread to other cities, escalating into a nationwide anti-government uprising.
According to Iranian state media, at least 109 security personnel have been killed. Human rights organizations report that hundreds of protesters have also lost their lives. Internet access has been blocked for more than 72 hours, further complicating communication.
The situation remains tense, with international observers closely monitoring the next moves of both sides.
