Iran Unrest Escalates: 109 Security Personnel Killed Amid Mosque Arson
The latest casualties include 30 personnel in Isfahan province and six in Kermanshah.
The violence has taken a drastic turn with reports of a mosque being set on fire in the city of Mashhad and a Red Crescent relief building being attacked in Gorgan, resulting in the death of a staff member. In response to the escalating crisis, Iran's Attorney General has warned that those involved in the violence could face the death penalty. Simultaneously, the Parliament Speaker issued a stern warning to Washington and Israel, threatening retaliatory strikes if foreign aggression occurs.
President Masoud Pezeshkian attributed the chaos to foreign provocation, specifically naming the U.S. and Israel. While academics like Professor Hassan Ahmadian of Tehran University note that the public remains deeply dissatisfied with the economic situation, he emphasized that the extreme violence seen recently—particularly since last Thursday—is widely condemned.
