Iran Protests: Multiple International Flights Grounded
On Saturday, January 10, Lufthansa, flydubai, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Austrian Airlines announced a temporary suspension of their Iran-based operations.
Dubai airport authorities reported that flydubai alone has canceled 17 flights bound for Tehran, Shiraz, and Mashhad. A similar situation has been observed with Emirates and Oman Air flights.
Turkish Airlines has also suspended 17 flights to various routes, including Tehran and Tabriz, with its subsidiary, AJet, following suit.
The protests began on December 28, triggered by the devaluation of the Iranian Rial. The movement quickly escalated into demands for government change, creating significant security risks for aviation. Airlines stated that these stringent measures were taken to ensure passenger safety.
Meanwhile, the situation has grown more complex due to the Iranian government's crackdown. According to Iran Human Rights, more than 50 protesters, including children, have been killed in operations by security forces, and massive arrests are underway. Local news agencies report that hundreds of people have been detained.
In summary: International airlines have temporarily suspended their flights to Iran due to the violent environment, security risks, and communication disruptions.
