On September 19 last year, the 52-year-old artist was attending a yacht party just a day before his scheduled performance at the North East India Festival. The coroner’s report, released on Wednesday (January 14), stated that although Garg initially wore a life jacket, he later removed it. He refused a second offer of a life jacket before swimming alone toward Lazarus Island.

Witnesses reported seeing him floating unresponsive with his face in the water while swimming back toward the yacht. Despite immediate rescue efforts and CPR, he passed away that same day. The autopsy confirmed the cause of death as drowning, noting that minor injuries found on the body were consistent with rescue maneuvers and CPR.

Toxicology results revealed a high blood alcohol concentration of 333mg per 100ml, indicating severe intoxication that significantly impaired his coordination. While Garg had pre-existing conditions like epilepsy and hypertension, forensic experts found no signs of foul play, confirming the incident as a purely accidental death.
