Market Opens with a Slump as DSE and CSE Indices Fall on Sunday

Market analysis reveals a significant drop within the first thirty minutes of trading, reflecting a cautious sentiment among investors as the national election approaches.

According to DSE data, the benchmark index, DSEX, fell by 16 points to stand at 5,218 points by 10:30 AM. Other indices also trended lower, with the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) shedding 5 points to reach 1,066 and the DSE-30 index dropping 7 points to settle at 1,994. During this early session, the total turnover on the DSE was recorded at Taka 61.33 crore, with 145 companies seeing a price decline compared to 140 gainers, while 81 remained unchanged.

In a similar trend, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw its overall index, CASPI, decrease by 1 point to 14,731 at the start of the day. Although the index showed signs of a slight recovery in the following hour, the total trade volume remained low at Taka 14 lakh by mid-morning. Leading the turnover chart in the early hours were major companies including Islami Bank, K&Q, Asiatic Laboratories, Munnu Fabrics, and Pragati Life, as institutional and retail investors reshuffled their portfolios amid the market's initial volatility.
