GDP growth reaches 4.5 percent in first quarter of current fiscal year

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released this data on Tuesday for the July-September quarter. According to BBS, the growth in the same period of the 2024-25 fiscal year was 2.58 percent.

A review of GDP growth shows that in the first quarter of FY 2024-25, growth was 2.58 percent, rising to 4.44 percent in the second, and 5.33 percent in the third. However, it plummeted to 2.47 percent in the final quarter. From that position, the economy has returned to a positive trajectory in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.

BBS also provided sector-wise data, showing that the industrial sector led the way with 6.97 percent growth. The service sector grew by 3.67 percent, while the agricultural sector recorded the lowest growth at 2.30 percent. Overall growth was largely driven by the performance of the industrial sector.

Comparatively, growth improved in all three sectors compared to the first quarter of FY 2024-25. At that time, agriculture saw a negative growth of 0.60 percent, while industry and services grew by 3.59 percent and 2.96 percent, respectively.
